So you're thinking of visiting the Cayman Islands? Are you looking for updated, relevant suggestions and information in 2026, from someone who has been recently and is in the same demographic as you? Do you love to support locally owned businesses, Black businesses, and woman owned businesses especially? Are you looking for a vacation centered around luxury, self care, good sleep, better beaches, and relaxation? Me too. And this is the guide for you! One more question…
Have you ever come home from a vacation feeling exhausted?
I have. More times than I would like to admit.
And I see it happen to others a lot, too. Americans get so little time off that we often feel pressure to make the most of every minute.
We plan packed itineraries, rush from one attraction to the next, and spend more time checking boxes than actually relaxing. By the time the trip is over, we are more tired than when we left….
So when the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism invited me to experience what they call vaCay, I took it as a personal dare: Could I actually slow down?
The rules were simple: no alarms, no rushing, no gold-star itinerary. Just stillness, sunshine, and the reminder that rest is meant to be felt, not achieved.
Let me show you how it went.
Where to stay in Grand Cayman: peaceful, private luxury
From the moment I checked into Botanica Luxury Cottages, I knew this trip would be different. The private apartment was surrounded by tropical greenery, quiet pathways, and soft island air.

No crowds, no noise, and no reminders of daily life.
It felt like a sanctuary designed for peace. And I'm obsessed with all the amenities they had: complimentary beach umbrella, beach blanket, beach towels, streaming services on the flat screen, full kitchen, and Grown Alchemist-branded shower products. I could go on and on. The attention to detail was truly relaxing!
Each day moved at its own pace. My itinerary was full, but never overwhelming.

Even the most active moments, like visiting Stingray City, felt joyful instead of stressful. The trip was designed to help me reconnect with myself while still exploring the islands' best.
What to do in Grand Cayman: Big and small adventures
Horseback riding with Spirit of the West might sound like an adrenaline rush, but it was one of the most peaceful activities of the trip! We rode along the shoreline and even swam with the horses. The rhythm of the waves and the sound of the sea created a sense of calm that stayed with me all day.

Later, I spent a slow afternoon at Bonny Moon Beach Club, where I could pretend to answer a few emails (I mean, I still run a business) before slamming my laptop shut and floating in the crystal blue waters for a few hours.
The lunch was spectacular and the mojitos made my muscles melt into the warm sand. I had such fun interactions with the staff too—they were so helpful in finding the best photo spots and just made the entire experience come to life.

Exploring the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands and having lunch at Heritage Kitchen gave me a taste of local culture and community.
My most Tik-Tok viral Cayman Islands Experience
I have got to ungatekeep this Cayman Islands dinner experience because it absolutely blew me away.
I went to Mambo Italiano (check out the viral TikTok I made about it!) at Palm Heights, and it felt like stepping into a scene from Mamma Mia!
You pull up easily to the front of the hotel, the restaurant sits outdoors to the right of the entrance, and the Cayman breeze does half the work of setting the mood. Arrive around 6:50 for a good seat, trust me.
You get a welcome drink, the music starts, and the staff opens the night with the most passionate top 40 karaoke. They cheer each other on, the crowd loosens up, and the first course lands on the table. My wine was perfect, the spicy margarita even better.
As the night goes on, guests start singing too. There is Sinatra, there is ABBA, and there is a moment where everyone swings their napkins in the air like we have known each other for years. If you come solo, you will leave with new friends. People dance with strangers and the staff like it is the most natural thing in the world.
For the price of a multi-course meal and a drink, you get one of the most joyful nights on the island.
I haven't belly-laughed like that in a long time. It absolutely brought all the Mamma Mia vibes I didn't know I needed!
Where to eat: local, delicious, indulgent
One of my personal favorite parts of this trip (read: any trip) is exploring the food scene, and the Cayman Islands delivered in leaps, bounds, and new levels.
Every meal felt like an experience. Scratch Donuts + Bakehouse, a Black woman-owned bakery, was a cafe-lovers dream. My recommendation: the Cassava Cake and Cinnamon Scroll.

Pepper’s Bar and Grill was a local staple full of great energy and a surf-shack vibe. And they served the best loaded fries I have ever had (paired it with the Pepper Punch for an extra fun night).
Lunch at Ms. Piper’s Kitchen + Garden was a dream. The space felt like a pink art piece filled with plants, color, and great food.

And the Sunday Wanderlust Brunch at the Grand Cayman Marriott’s Anchor & Den at the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort was actually unforgettable. The variety and quality of food they had for a buffet brunch—sushi, oysters, roast beef, omlette station, soup station, freeflowing drinks… I would eat there every day if I could, truly.
And three words: strawberry scotch bonnet mimosas. (Okay, that’s fourBut trust me, they deserve a novel.)
Before heading home, I treated myself to the De-Stress 60-Minute Massage at Botanika Union Spa right next door inside the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort. It was the perfect final note, like the island itself whispering, “Don’t forget what this feels like.”
How safe are the Cayman Islands for tourists?
I have laugh a little answering this because my trip was basically one long case study in how patient this island is with me.
I had some of the funkiest bad luck in Grand Cayman. And none of it had anything to do with the country itself.
I left the door to my rental car open for hours… and nothing was taken. I lost my hotel key and ended up leaving the door unlocked for the rest of the trip… with zero issues. I kept leaving my bag at restaurants and every single time a waiter came running after me with a smile like, “Girl, please!”. I even left my belongings on the beach all day while I swam without a single worry.
I would not recommend being as clumsy as I am—but it really showed me how much grace this island has for travelers. The hospitality is unreal. If you ask for help, a local will do whatever they can with a genuine smile. If you ask someone about their island or their favorite restaurant or their story, they will share it with pride.
Big ups to the Cayman Islands. As someone with West Indian heritage, it felt like a blessing to experience another Caribbean nation. So much in common, so much that is beautifully its own thing. If you are wondering about safety here, just know I accidentally tested it in every way and felt cared for the whole time.
I flew out of the small Caribbean dream truly feeling like I'd slept, eaten, and relaxed the way one's supposed to on a vacation.

The Cayman Islands reminded me that—even as a solo, adventure-loving traveler—we don’t have to try to wring every single second out of a vacation to make it “worth it”.
The best trips are guided by intention. Sometimes that intention is peace. Sometimes it’s laughter. Sometimes it’s the space you create between one deep breath and the next.
Welcome to vaCay is more than a slogan. It’s an invitation to finally experience the kind of rest you deserve!

Extremely safe. Petty crime and harassment toward women can happen anywhere in the world at any time unfortunately, but I found it extremely few and far between in Cayman Islands and I felt very comfortable and safe there solo.
