Funded art residency program for international artists to live and work in Senegal

Black Rock Senegal is a multidisciplinary artist-in-residence program founded by renowned artist Kehinde Wiley in 2019.
Named for the volcanic rocks that blanket its shoreline, the residency brings together international artists to live and work on the northwest coast of Dakar, Senegal, for 1–3 month stays.
Their mission is to support new artistic creation through collaborative exchange and to incite change in the global discourse about Africa.
Black Rock hosts 3 artists at a time and rotates through approximately 16 selected artists each year.
Benefits
Applicants chosen to partake in this art residency program are provided with the following amenities:
- Room, board, and individual studios
- Access to a number of shared spaces such as the library, gym, sauna, swimming pool, and gardens
- Local staff to assist in navigating Dakar
- A language tutor to assist with English, French, and Wolof– the three primary languages of the program
- Stipend to be used to purchase supplies and attend cultural activities while in residency.
Application requirements
Applicants must include the following:
- a CV
- a portfolio(including images and descriptions)
- a cover letter
All applications must meet the requirements set out on the residency website. The portfolio requirements vary depending on the category: Painting, Photography, Textile, Film, Sound/Performance, Mixed Media, and Sculpture.
Successful applicants will visit Black Rock between September 2024 through May 2025.
