Government of Mexico
3-week summer program for Mexican descendants to explore Mexico
Age: 18 to 30
Deadline: May 24, 2021
Scholars of Mexican origin will be welcomed to Mexico City by the federal gov, then sent off with a cohort to another region for their program. This year, the options are to go to Mexico City, Estado de México, Hidalgo, Jalisco and Michoacán.
Any scholars of Mexican origin in the U.S. can apply, meaning those:
✓ born in Mexico, now in the U.S (who can travel internationally)
✓ born to parents from Mexico
✓ who have grandparents from Mexico
This includes students fresh out of highschool, those in college, recent graduates, master program participants, and more. Though they are seeking scholars under the age of 30 and those who have not visited Mexico within the past 5 years. They would like to have students from the following regions: Los Angeles, Chicago, East Coast.
Participants will receive funding for their stay, meals, and transportation. And, if there are enough resources they will also refund the costs of the flight of participating scholars.
Applications are preferably submitted in Spanish, though English is also accepted.
Here is a testimonial from intern Elisabet Garcia, who contributed this opportunity:
Back in 2019, I had the honor of receiving this scholarship to go to CDMX and GDL. I met with politicians, business leaders, academics, artists, artisans, community organizers, and so much more.
Each day we went on a new excursion to partake in a culturally immersive activity, learn from, & engage with local communities. I met my dearest loved ones on this program & am so thankful for the opportunity.
EVEN IF YOU DON’T MEET ALL OF THE REQUIREMENTS, YOU SHOULD STILL APPLY! When I did the program there were students from all throughout California, Chicago, Texas, and even the Midwest. I got in even though I had visited 2 years prior. Everyone's Spanish was on a different level, so it was a very diverse group!
