The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Fellowship is a one-year fellowship where US-based American scholars and researchers can receive a $25 000 award to conduct research at a university in Montreal for the 2022-2023 academic year. Fellows receive an additional allowance of up to CA$15 000 for research, travel, and networking.

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation seeks leading academics undertaking research in the Social Sciences and Humanities tied to one of the PETF’s four pillars: Human rights and dignity; Responsible citizenship; Canada and the world; and, People and their natural environment. Candidates should also have expertise relevant to PETF’s scientific theme beginning in 2022: Global Economies. Fellows will be doing the following:

  • Conducting research for one semester (four-month residential exchange) in Montreal, Quebec, co-hosted by the PETF and a partner university.
  • Participating in the PETF's Institutes of Engaged Leadership as a facilitator, teacher and/or speaker and taking part in planning sessions for the Institutes.
  • Advising and/or mentoring the PETF's doctoral scholars.
  • Participating in activities related to the PETF and Fulbright Canada, including the development and initiation of events and educational activities for members of the public and members of the PETF's and Fulbright’s communities.

NOTE: Due to the situation stemming from COVID-19, the format of forthcoming events will be adapted in accordance with national and local restrictions. Some small in-person gatherings may take place if conditions allow. Otherwise, the PETF will continue to engage its community through digital events.
