German Academic Exchange Service

Who: Graduates, doctoral students, or postdocs
Deadline: Varies by institution

Every year, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports well over 100,000 German and international students and researchers around the globe – making it the world's largest funding organization of its kind.

DAAD scholarships are aimed primarily at graduates, doctoral students and postdocs and are awarded for study and research visits to universities and non-university research institutions in Germany. In some programmes, internships are also funded.

Successful applicants will receive monthly payments of 861 euros for graduate students or 1,200 euros for doctoral candidates.

Winners can also receive other benefits such as payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover, a travel allowance, research allowances, and more.

The scholarship duration is 12 to 24 months (depending on the particular institution) for Master's and 42 months for PhD.

In order to apply, applications must be submitted directly to the respective course/institution. Deadlines vary based on the course, but tend to fall between August and October.
